Nassau Council of Arts and Culture: A fresh advocate for the county arts scene

Arts and Culture Nassau has been sunsetted by both the Nassau County and Fernandina Beach commissions. However, instead of limiting the work that can be done to promote arts and culture in the county, the organization’s reinvention of the Nassau Council of Arts and Culture Inc.

Fernandina Beach High School’s inaugural beach volleyball team hosted the Episcopal Lady Eagles Tuesday afternoon at Main Beach. The FBHS Lady Pirates lost to Episcopal 5-0. “All our matches were close,” coach Brian Evatt said. The Lady Pirates host Middleburg Monday at 4 p.m.

A scared dog scurries across a busy intersection, not sure where to go or how to get away from the loud, fast-moving vehicles. Drivers may call 911, but the officers that usually come out to rescue the animals belong to a different government entity.

Nassau County clerk announces retirement

After decades of public service, Clerk John A. Crawford has announced his retirement, effective at the end of this current term. Crawford has served as the Nassau County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller for four consecutive terms, beginning January 2005.

Produce and peace of mind

A plot of land that was purchased as a hedge against rising rent costs has become a spot that feeds both the body and spirit in Fernandina Beach — the garden at Townies Pizza. Matt and Angie Klabacka grew up in north Jacksonville, frequently visiting Amelia Island.
