Six-month hurricane season starts June 1

As the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season begins June 1, forecasters are urging residents not to let predictions of a quieter season lead to complacency.

Nassau County approves Flood Adaptation Plan

Nassau County is taking steps to boost its flood resiliency. The Board of County Commissioners approved two items at its May 20 meeting that staff said will assist the county in just that.

Budget talks set to begin in June

Nassau County has set the date for their first budget talks for the upcoming fiscal year. On June 22, the Board of County Commissioners will join county staff in a workshop to discuss the 2026-27 Fiscal Year budget.  The 9 a.m. meeting will be held at the James S. Page Governmental Complex.

Companies power up for hurricane season

With hurricane season beginning June 1, electric companies serving Nassau County are already preparing for the possibility of severe weather through infrastructure upgrades, storm-response exercises and preventative maintenance efforts aimed at limiting outages.

Board OK’s issuance of $11M bond for CLAM

At Wednesday’s Board of County Commissioners meeting, commissioners OK’d the issuance of up to $11 million in general obligation bonds for the Conservation Land Acquisition Management program.

Nassau County Fire Rescue Chief Brady Rigdon gave another weekly update on the county’s drought conditions at Monday’s Board of County Commissioners meeting, and the board extended the ban for another week.

Twardy makes state top-5

Nassau County’s Teacher of the Year has moved on to the next level of recognition: a finalist for the top honor in the state. Florida Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas announced on X Thursday that Sarah Twardy was a finalist for state Teacher of the Year.
