A 76-year-old pedestrian was killed by a vehicle that fled Wednesday morning, a Florida Highway Patrol report said.
FHP said the pedestrian death occurred in the 87000 block of Roses Bluff Road in Yulee just south of the St. Marys River and the state line around 10 a.m. The report said the victim, a Yulee woman, was walking east along the south shoulder when an "unknown vehicle" traveling east on Roses Bluff Road collided with her. The report listed a tractor/trailer as the suspect vehicle.
The woman sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
The Nassau County Sheriff's Office said that Roses Bluff Road was down to one lane, from Chester Road to Po Folks Way, due to a traffic fatality investigation on Wednesday morning, asking drivers to seek alternative routes.
