Tourism Development Tax updates continue

At Monday’s Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board terminated its agreement with the Amelia Island Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. The termination was just one step in creating the new agreement with the CVB — the Tourism Promotion Services contract.

Drought persists in Nassau

Freezing temperatures and low precipitation hit Florida’s agriculture industry and rural communities harder than normal this year. Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency last week for all 67 counties to help Floridians recover from prolonged cold snaps and drought in January and February.

County closes on land to expand Yulee Sports Complex

At Wednesday’s Nassau County Board of County Commissioners meeting, the board approved the closing of a purchase of land next to the Yulee Sports Complex.  The county approved the purchase in December, of the property at 86067 Pages Dairy Road from Coalition for the Homeless of Nassau County, Inc.

An ‘accidental collection’ of ball pythons

“They are very docile so you don't have to worry too much about them, see she is getting a little curious,” said Sam Johnson as a ball python began slithering up his chest.

Paddle for Veterans kick-off event 

Cross the Line Foundation will be hosting its annual Paddle for Veterans kick-off event at the American Legion Post 54 onSunday from noon - 3 p.m. The free event marks the start of the 2026 registration for the organization's largest fundraising event: Paddle for Veterans.

Getting the perfect shot 

As a large pelican cascaded over the surface of the Amelia River, Francine (Frankie) Gross knelt in preparation for the perfect shot. 9-year-old Frankie gripped her Cannon camera and watched as the bird moved swiftly through the air in search of its next fish.
