Locals observe Juneteenth today, tomorrow

Nassau County and Fernandina Beach have announced governmental offices will be closed today in observance of Juneteenth and tomorrow locals will honor the day of celebration.June 19 commemorates the end of slavery in the United States following the Civil War.

The Board of County Commissioners held a laid-back Wednesday morning meeting, a short reprieve behind the formation of the Fact Finding Committee and ahead of budget talks set to begin Monday.

Pennsylvania motorcyclist killed in crash on interstate

A Pennsylvania motorcyclist is dead following a collision on I-95 on Wednesday afternoon, a Florida Highway Patrol report said.The report said the motorcycle and a van with two people onboard were traveling northbound on I-95 near State Road 200 in Nassau County.

NCSO: Man accused of driving drunk with 3 children in car

A Jacksonville man was arrested Friday on DUI charges in Callahan with two toddlers and an infant in the car, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office said. Lewis, 37, was charged with five misdemeanors: three counts of alcohol or drugs .

Paddle for Veterans raises $10K for Building Battle Buddies

12-month data center moratorium officially approved

The 12-month moratorium on data centers in Nassau County is official as staff continues to gather testimony and facts on the topic. The Board of County Commissioners approved the ordinance Monday night during the final hearing on the moratorium.

County gains cutting-edge tech

Within the next 30 days, Nassau County’s Parks & Recreation Department will receive its new state-of-the-art autonomous electric mower.Parks & Recreation Director Jay Robertson said the department is excited about the addition.

'Uber for lawn care' now operating in Nassau County

A nationwide lawn-care app that operates in 49 states has made its way to Nassau County.  Gene Caballero, cofounder of GreenPal, said the app is the easiest way for homeowners to find, schedule and pay their lawn guy.
