Pirates host Stanton in home opener

The Fernandina Beach High School boys basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season at home Saturday against Hilliard (1-1). The visiting Flashes won 65-35 over the Pirates. The night before, the Pirates beat Stanton 55-46 at Pirate Gym.

The Fernandina Beach Middle School soccer teams hosted Yulee on Friday night. The girls’ game ended in a 1-1 stalemate, and the FBMS boys beat YMS 2-0. The teams are idle this week and will resume play after the holiday hiatus.
The Nassau Pride took on the Columbus Skyhawks Saturday night in American Basketball Association action at Yulee High School. Pirates place eighth in the state; Campbell 22nd

Pirate golf was well-represented Tuesday and Wednesday during the 2A state championship at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills. The Fernandina Beach High School boys team qualified, and individually, Sady Campbell competed in the girls tournament.

Pirate swimmers make splash at region, head to state

The Pirates hadn’t had a state qualifier in swimming in six years, until last season. Two qualified. This season, a host of Fernandina Beach High School swimmers will head to state. The 2A meet was slated for Saturday, but because of the storm, will be held Nov. 19 in Stuart.

AVCA honors for trio of Lady Pirates

The American Volleyball Coaches Association recently recognized three Fernandina Beach High School senior volleyball players for their performances this season. Ella Johns, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter for the FBHS Lady Pirates, was named an AVCA High School All-Region player.
