The fifth annual Run Like the Dickens one-mile fun run was held Saturday morning at Main Beach. The event was hosted by the Salty Sports Society and the McArthur Family YMCA and held in conjunction with Dickens on Centre holiday festival.

The Eastern Surfing Association’s First Coast District will hold its final contest of 2022 Sunday at Main Beach. Participants can register online at liveheats.com. The first heat will start at 8 a.m. The season has been made possible thanks to many local sponsors including Amelia Adventures.

The Yulee High School wrestling team took on Middleburg Wednesday afternoon in the Hornets’ home opener. The YHS grapplers compete at Hernando this weekend and travel to Florida D&B Dec. 14. They host the Yulee Duals Dec. 16-17.

The Pirate grapplers saw their first action over the weekend. They were among wrestlers from four different states competing in the Border Wars tournament at South Walton High School in Santa Rosa Friday and Saturday.

he Amelia Island Guides Association ran a very successful backwater fishing tournament over the weekend with excellent weather conditions. The big event, which attracted some 40 fishing teams, was held from the Old Towne Marina on Egans Creek.

The Fernandina Beach High School boys basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season at home Saturday against Hilliard (1-1). The visiting Flashes won 65-35 over the Pirates. The night before, the Pirates beat Stanton 55-46 at Pirate Gym.

The Fernandina Beach Middle School soccer teams hosted Yulee on Friday night. The girls’ game ended in a 1-1 stalemate, and the FBMS boys beat YMS 2-0. The teams are idle this week and will resume play after the holiday hiatus.

The Nassau Pride took on the Columbus Skyhawks Saturday night in American Basketball Association action at Yulee High School. The Pride takes on the Florida Sunblazers on the road Saturday and is back home Dec. 3 with Gulf Coast Hoopers. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. at YHS. Visit www.nassaupride.com. Photos by Sean Rollo/Special
