Lady Pirates beat Lady Hornets in home opener

The Lady Pirates hosted Yulee Tuesday in their home opener at Pirate Gym. The Fernandina Beach High School volleyball team (3-0) defeated the visiting Lady Hornets 25-18, 25-9, 17-25, 25-11. “Both teams, JV and varsity, are doing quite well,” FBHS coach Damon Gordon said.

Pirate cross country off to quick start

Bang! The 2022 cross country season started fast a week ago, and within five days, the Fernandina Beach High School teams had run two meets. Head Coaches Bill Beaumont (boys) and Dave Reinhart (girls) had an efficient way to evaluate the talent in the recent record turnout of 62 harriers.

Pinson to compete in Jacksonville

Fans of local skateboard phenom Poe Pinson can catch her in action a little closer to home this weekend. She will be competing in the Street League Skateboarding championship tour event Saturday and Sunday at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville.

39th annual Fishing Rodeo Aug. 6

The 39th Fernandina Beach Fishing Rodeo, presented by the Nassau Sport Fishing Association, will be held Aug. 6 at the Fernandina Harbor Marina. It is sanctioned by the Southern Kingfish Association as part of its 2022 Tournament Trail national championship series.

The Yulee High School football team traveled to Tocoi Creek Thursday night for spring matchup. The YHS Hornets prevailed 44-13. Chris Turner was 45 of 51 for 486 passing yards and four touchdowns. Zack Drawdy had 14 catches for 178 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

First Contest of the season held

The First Coast District of the Eastern Surfing Association held its first contest of the 2022 season on Saturday. Waves came in at one to two feet, just enough to hold a contest. The first three scheduled contests were canceled because of the lack of waves.
