Surfers hit the water Saturday for the season’s first contest.

First Contest of the season held

The First Coast District of the Eastern Surfing Association held its first contest of the 2022 season on Saturday. Waves came in at one to two feet, just enough to hold a contest. The first three scheduled contests were canceled because of the lack of waves.

Nassau County athletes compete in State Summer Games

Five Nassau County Special Olympic cycling athletes and one unified partner competed in the annual 2022 Special Olympics Florida State Games Friday and Saturday at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista.

Pirates win, play in Region 1-3A championship

The Pirates advanced to the Elite 8 Saturday with a 5-2 victory over Trinity Catholic Saturday night in a Region 1-3A semifinal matchup. The Fernandina Beach High School baseball team (16-9) played for the region titleTuesday night. They traveled to The Villages Charter School.
The Yulee High School softball team (14-13) lost to Wakulla 5-2 Wednesday night at home in a Region 1-4A quarterfinal matchup. Yulee struck first, scoring a run in the bottom of the first. Both teams loaded the bases in the second, but left runners stranded. Yulee took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, but Wakulla knotted the score in the top of the fifth. Yulee beats Bishop Kenny to clinch crown

The Lady Hornets captured their first district title since 2014 when they beat Bishop Kenny 4-2 Thursday night, pulling an upset over the District 3-4A’s top seed in the championship game. “We finally played a complete game,” said Chris Hicken, head softball coach at Yulee High School.
