Youth hoops league opens season at YMCA

More than 300 children are participating in the McArthur Family YMCA’s youth basketball league this winter, and games were in full swing Saturday morning the Y on Citrona Drive in Fernandina Beach. Games are played Friday nights and Saturdays.

Galpin aces No. 9 west...again

Fernandina Beach Women's Golf Association member Vickie Galpin had a hole-in-one on No. 9 west at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club. This was her second ace on that hole.

5 sign in Yulee, commit to play in college

Five Yulee student-athletes signed national letters of intent to keep playing after high school. A ceremony was held at the school Wednesday to celebrate two soccer players, a pair of football players and a volleyball player, who all penned on early signing day.

Pickleball Pirates host final round robin of year

The Dink-le Bell round robin pickleball tournament fielded 14 mixed doubles teams on Saturday, ending in a final match between the winners of pools A and B in both first and second positions.

The Yulee Bowling Center hosted a Professional Bowlers Association tournament over the weekend, but before they took to the lanes, they polished their forms Friday night playing with the amateurs, with pro-am tournaments for local children, pictured, and adults.

The fifth annual Run Like the Dickens one-mile fun run was held Saturday morning at Main Beach. The event was hosted by the Salty Sports Society and the McArthur Family YMCA and held in conjunction with Dickens on Centre holiday festival.

Last surf contest of year

The Eastern Surfing Association’s First Coast District will hold its final contest of 2022 Sunday at Main Beach.  Participants can register online at liveheats.com. The first heat will start at 8 a.m. The season has been made possible thanks to many local sponsors including Amelia Adventures.
