Providence edges FBHS 3-2 for district title

The Pirates’ win streak was snapped at 19. The Fernandina Beach High School baseball team (21-4) was edged 3-2 by host Providence Thursday in the District 3-3A championship. “What a great game,” FBHS head coach Jon Shave said. “We stood toe to toe with the No. 2 team in the state.

Pirates make it 19, play for district title

The Pirates made it 19 wins in a row Tuesday night when they beat visiting Wolfson 7-2 in the semifinal round of the District 3-3A tournament. The Fernandina Beach High School baseball team (21-3) advanced to the championship game Thursday, where they faced top-seed Providence.

Jones heading to Virginia Tech

Yulee High School freshman pitcher and outfielder Mason Jones committed to Virginia Tech Wednesday afternoon. Jones is hitting .298 and leading the team with three home runs and 17 RBIs. Tied for the team lead with five doubles and 11 stolen bases, Jones is also 5-2 on the mound with a 3.

Six sailboats and a submarine

The Amelia Island Sailing Club held its fourth race of the 2023 season on Saturday, April 22, with six boats on the line at the mouth of the Amelia River for the 10 a.m. start of the 10.1-nautical mile race.

Pirate netters wrap up their seasons

The Fernandina Beach High School boys and girls tennis teams have wrapped up their respective seasons. The FBHS boys went  8-4 on the year, played Stanton in the district championship and advanced to the region tournament in Jacksonville. The No.

District tournaments kick off Monday

The Pirates (20-3) made it 18 in a row Wednesday, when they blanked host Stanton 9-0. The Fernandina Beach High School extended its record-breaking win streak to 18 as the Pirates head into the district tournament next week. The Pirates recored their fifth straight shutout in 32 scoreless innings.

Pirates extend winning streak to 17

It’s been a while since the Pirates lost. March 3, to be exact. The Fernandina Beach High School baseball team shattered the previous school record of 15 straight wins last week, beating Ponte Vedra and Keystone Heights to extend its winning streak to 17.

Course is a gem, and a new group is polishing it

This community is a generous one, and that fact didn’t go unnoticed by Lee Murray. “When I looked around, I saw Friends of (Fernandina) Skatepark, Friends of Bosque Bello, Friends of the (Fernandina Beach) Library, Friends of the Airport, Friends of American Beach, and I’m going, ‘Wow,’” he said.
