Thea Seagraves, the edu-cation director of the Amelia Island Museum of History, asked for volunteers to help her put together a program allowing the older children at the America’s Youth pro-gram in Fernandina Beach to be introduced to the great game of golf.

Overpopulation of snapper

Capt. David Hagins guides his charter guests offshore of Amelia Island on a regular basis and has developed firsthand knowledge on the current status of hard-fighting and excellent-eating red snapper, which is currently a big subject among avid fishermen and seafood lovers, too.

NSFA awards $18,000 in scholarships

The Nassau Sport Fishing Association presented a total of $18,000 in scholarships to six seniors from Nassau County high schools this year.

Boys & Girls Clubs, UNF hold soccer camp

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Nassau County partnered with the University of North Florida in hosting a soccer camp June 26-30 on the Miller Freedom Center athletic field. More than 60 youths ages 6-13 participated each day from 8 a.m.

The Elm Street Little League 10U All Stars played in the District 11 softball tournament at Hilliard Saturday. Elm Street lost Saturday and its Monday game to cap the season. Elm Street is hosting a softball and pitching camp July 10-14 for girls ages 7-14. Register at https://tshq.bluesombrero.

Tournament champs

The Nassau Ballerz 12U team for went 3-0 over the weekend to bring home the championship trophy at the annual Lakercats AAU Tournament in Valdosta, Ga. The Ballerz are hosting a tournament July 7-9. The Last Ride Bash includes boys and girls divisions. Call 583-6042 for information.

Fernandina Beach police officers stopped by the Fernandina Beach High School gym Tuesday and played dodgeball with the children attending the P.E. Camp this summer. The camp is open from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday July 10-13, July 17-20 and July 24-27 and is open to children ages 5-14.
