YMS Hornets 46, FBMS Pirates 20

The host Yulee Middle School Hornets beat the Fernandina Beach Pirates 46-20 Tuesday. Fred Jones had 19 carries for  95 yards for the Pirates, and teammate Jasean Washington had seven carries for 31 yards, a touchdown and a pair of tackles. He forced a fumble and returned a fumble 60 yards for a TD.

Yulee, Fernandina play for district title

Second-seed Fernandina Beach High School beat the Paxon Golden Eagles (No. 3 seed) 25-10, 25-8, 25-13 Tuesday in the semifinal round of the District 3-4A volleyball tournament in Yulee. “We’re super excited to take on the Yulee Hornets Thursday night,” said Kayla Duggan, head coach at FBHS.

2-time world champ

She did it again. Vivianne Morales is a two-time junior world champion. The 18-year-old from Fernandina Beach took first place in her division at the International Federation of Muaythai Associations 2023 Youth World Championships in Antalya, Turkey. She captured the title last year in Malaysia.

The Coach Hope Memorial Invitational meet is alive again. The renamed meet was first held in 2019, skipped in 2020 because of COVID-19, introduced a new course design in 2021 and missed in 2022 because of scheduling complications.

AISC holds eighth race of season

Five sailboats from the Amelia Island Sailing Club raced on Saturday in Cumberland Sound. Two other boats had to withdraw because of last-minute issues and conflicts. It was a beautiful sunny day, with temperatures in the mid 80s.
