Fishing on fire

“Bottom fishing has been on fire recently,” said Capt. Allen Mills, skipper of the Wahoo II charter fishing boat. “I recently guided longtime friends and charter clients Mallory Smith, Thad Carter and Zach Terry to a big catch of saltwater bottom fish.

Nassau hosts inaugural competition

Fifty-four athletes from eight Special Olympics teams across Georgia and Northeast Florida participated in an all-day powerlifting tournament Saturday at the Atlantic Recreation Center in Fernandina Beach.

FBHS adds girls wrestling team

Audrey Miller wrestled on the boys team last year, but when the Pirate grapplers traveled to the district tournament, the freshman was told her inaugural season was over.

Lady Pirates beat Terry Parker Lady Braves 56-20

The Lady Pirates got their second win of the season Tuesday night at home. The Fernandina Beach High School girls basketball team (2-1) beat Terry Parker 56-20. “I am pleased and excited with how things are going,” head coach D.J. Ford said. “The girls are adapting quickly.

Hornets handle Warriors 67-32

The Hornets scored 16 unanswered points before the Warriors managed a point Tuesday night. The Yulee High School boys basketball team pushed its record to 2-0 with a 67-32 victory over visiting West Nassau. Yulee led 21-4 after a quarter and 44-10 at halftime.

Hornets eliminated by Wildcats in playoffs

The Yulee High School went 9-3 in 2023, losing to visiting Baker County 32-14 Friday in the semifinal round of the region playoffs. The Yulee Hornets defeated Keystone Heights in the first round of the playoffs to advance. Baker County Bradford County in the region championship.

FBMS Pirates host YMS Hornets

Fernandina Beach Middle School’s soccer teams hosted Yulee Friday night. The FBMS girls won  3-1, and the FBMS boys were 2-1 victors.

Lucky winner

Michelle Hartman was the winner of the 2012 Kia Soul raffle, presented by the Fernandina Beach High School Quarterback Club. First Coast Towing, Ed’s Comfort Solutions and Bo’s Automotive donated the used vehicle to the Quarterback Club to raffle off to benefit FBHS football.

The Fernandina Beach High School girls cross country team closed out its finest season ever, finishing as the top public school and ninth place overall behind eight private schools at the Class 2A championships at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee on Friday.
