Official Strongman Games qualifier

The Official Strongman Games southeast regional qualifier was held Saturday and Sunday and Main Beach, and men and women displayed their athletic prowess by lifting cars, pressing logs and pulling a Pirate ship. The top three move on to the world final Dec.

Poe and co. play in Paris

Needless to say, the trip to Paris was one to remember for Poe Pinson and those who accompanied her. “I never really set expectations on competitions or trips, kinda just vibe in the moment and feel stuff out,” Pinson told the News-Leader through text message.

Pinson’s in Paris, kicking off Olympics

The opening ceremonies for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France, are today, and Poe Pinson of Fernandina Beach is there representing the U.S. women’s skateboarding team. Pinson and her teammates compete Sunday. The preliminaries are scheduled from 6-11 a.m., and the final starts at 11 a.m.

Brothers competing in pétanque world qualifier

The Mullican brothers will compete this weekend in a world championship qualifier. Elijah, 15, and his little brother, Caleb, are in Denver, Colo., for the Federation of Pétanque USA 2024 Juniors World Championship Qualifier.

Go, Poe! Community shows support for Olympic skateboarder

Poe Pinson is in Paris, preparing the 2024 Olympics. Back at home, her community is sharing its pride and showing its support. The Friends of the Fernandina Skatepark is selling Go Poe! signs for $25 each so businesses or individuals can show their support and contribute to Pinson’s trip.

New coach, new conference for Pirates

It’s summer, and the Pirates are taking advantage of the offseason. Summer workouts started the first week of June for the Fernandina Beach High School football team. “We’ve been getting after it as much as we can with the guys that are here,” said Blake Willis, the new head football coach at FBHS.

Kraft tennis partners awards $1,000 scholarships

The scholarship committee of Kraft Tennis Partners recently presented a $1,000 scholarship each to two deserving Fernandina Beach High School tennis team play-ers. Heath Sherber and Henry Colwell were selected as recipients from the group of scholarship applications submitted to the committee.

Nassau Knights State champs

The Nassau Knights 3v3 basketball team brought home the gold over the weekend after great, undefeated play in the toughest division at Special Olympics Florida State Summer Games in Orlando. In the championship game, Nassau beat Palm Beach by just two points to clinch the title.
