Lady Pirates beat Hilliard in overtime

The Lady Pirates pulled an upset over Hilliard Tuesday night. The Fernandina Beach High School girls basketball team defeated their hosts 35-31 in overtime. “A huge, momentum-building win for our pro-gram,” said D.J. Ford, head girls basketball coach at Fernandina Beach High School.

The Pirates wrestled at the Billy Saylor duals at Suwannee High School Jan. 12-13. There were nine teams, which wrestled each other in a round-robin pool.
Yulee High School honored its senior soccer players on Jan. 11. The boys team defeated Ridgeview 5-1. The 9-3-1 Hornets tied Creekside 1-1 at home Wednesday to cap the regular season. Submitted

Pirates, Lady Pirates host Yulee tonight

The Pirates celebrate winter homecoming tonight, and the Fernandina Beach High School girls and boys basketball teams are hosting Yulee. The boys junior varsity matchup kicks things off at 4:30 p.m., followed by the girls varsity game at 6 p.m. The boys varsity tilt is at 7:30 p.m.

Pirate Ships 'n' Duels held at Palm Bay

t Palm Bay The Pirate grapplers competed in the Pirate Ships ‘n’ Duels at Palm Bay High School Dec. 29-30. Format was a round-rob-in pool on Friday, and on Saturday all the pools were combined into one bracket. There were 19 teams competing, but there was no team score kept at the event.

Jaguars 5K Stadium Challenge Feb. 24

The Jaguars 5K Stadium Challenge will be held Feb. 24 at EverBank Field, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 5K wave starts at 6 p.m., and the one-mile Fun Run starts at 6:15 p.m. It is a glow-in-the-dark run with post-race glow in the dark dance party on the stadium field.

Casting lures, baits and feathered hooks into shallow water redfish habitats and deep-water hideouts in hopes of hooking into the grow-ing popularity of redfishing increased during the 2023 fishing and outdoor season.
