Kraft tennis partners awards $1,000 scholarships

The scholarship committee of Kraft Tennis Partners recently presented a $1,000 scholarship each to two deserving Fernandina Beach High School tennis team play-ers. Heath Sherber and Henry Colwell were selected as recipients from the group of scholarship applications submitted to the committee.

The Nassau Knights 3v3 basketball team brought home the gold over the weekend after great, undefeated play in the toughest division at Special Olympics Florida State Summer Games in Orlando. In the championship game, Nassau beat Palm Beach by just two points to clinch the title.

A Pirate is once again at the helm of the football program at Fernandina Beach High School. Blake Willis, a 2009 alum, is the new head football coach. “When I was here, we had a little bit of success,” Willis said. “My junior year, we went to the playoffs. We went 8-2.

The regular seasons  are winding down for Fernandina Beach and Yulee high schools’ baseball and softball teams. The FBHS baseball team (9-10) hosted Tocoi Creek on Wednesday night in the final home game of the sea-son. The visiting Toros beat the Pirates 13-8.

Fernandina Beach High School’s inaugural beach volleyball team hosted the Episcopal Lady Eagles Tuesday afternoon at Main Beach. The FBHS Lady Pirates lost to Episcopal 5-0. “All our matches were close,” coach Brian Evatt said. The Lady Pirates host Middleburg Monday at 4 p.m.
