Hornets win, back home again

The Hornets are back home Friday as they dig deeper into the playoffs. The Yulee High School football team (9-2) beat visiting Keystone Heights 36-10 Friday in the region quarterfinal round.

Hornets host Indians Friday in playoffs

The Hornets are in the playoffs. The Yulee High School football team, now 8-2 after last week’s 18-0 shutout over the visiting Pedro Menendez Falcons, hosts the Keystone Heights Indians Friday night in the region quarterfi-nal round. Yulee is the second seed behind Bradford County.

Pirates district runners-up

The host Pirates were runners-up behind Ponte Vedra Tuesday in the District 3-2A boys golf tour-nament at Oak Marsh at the Omni resort. The district champs shot 306, Fernandina shot 333, and Bishop Kenny posted a 338. All three teams advance to play Perdido Bay in Pensacola on Tuesday.

FBHS girls golf team runner-up in district

The Lady Pirates are district runners-up. The Fernandina Beach High School girls golf team (381) finished second to Ponte Vedra (311) in the tournament held Monday at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club. Bishop Kenny (382) finished third, and all three teams advance to the region tournament.

The host Yulee Middle School Hornets beat the Fernandina Beach Pirates 46-20 Tuesday. Fred Jones had 19 carries for  95 yards for the Pirates, and teammate Jasean Washington had seven carries for 31 yards, a touchdown and a pair of tackles. He forced a fumble and returned a fumble 60 yards for a TD.

Pirates XC faster at New World Fall Spectacular

The coaches of the boys and girls Pirate cross coun-try teams insisted it was not hyperbole. Both the name of the meet and the teams’ performances last Saturday were “spectacular.
