Nine-hole LGA closes season

Members of the Ladies Golf Association nine-hole group at the Golf Club of Amelia Island celebrated the end of the 2022-23 season under sunny skies. The format was especially fun, as all nine holes had been converted to par threes.

Ladies tackle fishing

With some 50 seasons of charter fishing under my belt, I can tell you from personal experience many of the ladies I have taken fishing will listen more intently to my fishing advice than men.

Scholarships awarded for trio

The Fernandina Beach Men’s Golf Association, through its Scholarship Trust Fund Inc., has been providing Fernandina  Beach High School graduates scholarships for more than 30 years.

Pirates at state

Fernandina Beach High School was represented by six athletes Thursday in the state track and field championships at the University of North Florida. Neveah Morris, a senior and voted most valuable player of the girls track team, took fourth place in the discus with 40.06-meter throw.

Big-money kingfish

Both seasoned and beginning saltwater fishermen will have the opportunity to compete for a big payday in the many upcoming kingfish events held in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia kingfish destinations.

Club champ crowned

The Fernandina Beach Women’s Golf Association had its annual club championship and handicap tournament May 9 and May 16. The club championship is gross scores, and the handicap is net scores. The winner of the club championship was Shauna Snyder, with a gross 159.

Yulee Hornets beat Wolfson, Tocoi Creek

The Hornets won both of its matchups Friday night. The Yulee High School beat Wolfson 14-0 and Tocoi Creek 5-0 in the spring out-ing. Teonte Artis-Croxton had 18 carries for 105 yards and a touchdown on the night for Yulee. Coen Brehmer had 13 carries for 55 yards and a score.

PIRATES FALL TO TROJANS IN SPRING MATCHUP

The Fernandina Beach High School football team traveled to Ribault Thursday night to play in its spring game. The FBHS Pirates lost to the host Trojans. FBHS is back in action Aug. 18, when the Pirates host the Hilliard Flashes.
