Gymnasts at state

Fantastic Gymnastics had 35 girls qualify for the state championships in Lakeland and Wesley Chapel. The gymnasts are currently training for the next level. Summer camp dates are June 19-22 and July 17-20, from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is  $140 for registered gymnasts and $160 for non-registered.

The Fernandina Beach Middle School track and field team sent 14 athletes to the state track meet May 12 and 13 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, with some recording personal bests and setting new school records. Preston Le competed in the 100-meter hurdles, turning in a time of 15.

PIRATES TRAVEL THURSDAY; HORNETS HOST FRIDAY

The Fernandina Beach High School football team practiced Monday afternoon as it prepares for its spring matchup. The FBHS Pirates play at Ribault Thursday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The Yulee High School football team is at home Friday, hosting Wolfson and Tocoi Creek beginning at 6 p.m.

Gutter tourney champ

The Ladies Golf Association at the Golf Club of Amelia Island held its two-week Championship Tournament April 27 and May 4. Ann Gutter played against a very competitive field to win. Under tough course conditions, Gutter shot 89 and 82, for a 171 two-week total.

River Cup played

The Amelia River Women’s Golf Association recently held its annual River Cup. The gross and net tournament is a two-day event combining the two scores of each day. Overall low gross winner was Shauna Snyder, with a gross score of 151. Overall low net winner was Carol Hawco, with a net score of 132.

Amelia National hosts invitational

Amelia National Golf & Country Club hosted its annual Ladies Invitational, The Amelia, on May 1, and there were a total of 92 ladies representing 23 different clubs all across North Florida and from as far away as Columbus, Ohio.
Jamieson Keith, Brooks Rohe and Andre Lucas signed national letters of intent to play their respective sport in college. Pirate trio pen to play on next level

The Pirates celebrated spring signing day April 27, with three athletes declaring their intentions to play on the collegiate level. Jamieson Keith (base-ball) and Brooks Rohe (football) signed national letters of intent to play their respective sport at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
