79th annual Gator Bowl date, time set

The 79th annual TaxSla-yer Gator Bowl will be played on Bill Gay Grounds at TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville on Friday, Dec. 29, at noon and will be televised nationally on ESPN.

Yulee High School is hosting the first of two summer basketball camps. The first session runs through today, and the next camp is June 5-8 for students entering grades 4-8 this fall. Ladies cap season with low gross, net event

The Golf Club of Amelia Island’s Ladies Golf Association held its closing day events on May 25. On a beautiful day, they started with a team one low gross on the front nine and one low net on the back nine competition.

Players from Nassau Ballerz held a car wash fundraiser on Sunday at Atlantic Hair Studio at 302 S. Eighth St. in Fernandina Beach. Nassau Ballerz will host boys and girls basketball tournaments — Summer Bash June 2-4 and Last Ride Bash July 7-9.

Nassau Ballerz summer camp special appearance announced

Jasmyne Roberts, a Nassau Ballerz alum and former Yulee Middle School basketball player, will make a special appearance during a summer camp June 5-9 at the Yulee Sports Complex. Roberts, who played high school hoops at Bishop Kenny, is currently a member or the University of Miami team.

Nine-hole LGA closes season

Members of the Ladies Golf Association nine-hole group at the Golf Club of Amelia Island celebrated the end of the 2022-23 season under sunny skies. The format was especially fun, as all nine holes had been converted to par threes.

Ladies tackle fishing

With some 50 seasons of charter fishing under my belt, I can tell you from personal experience many of the ladies I have taken fishing will listen more intently to my fishing advice than men.

Scholarships awarded for trio

The Fernandina Beach Men’s Golf Association, through its Scholarship Trust Fund Inc., has been providing Fernandina  Beach High School graduates scholarships for more than 30 years.

Fernandina Beach High School was represented by six athletes Thursday in the state track and field championships at the University of North Florida. Neveah Morris, a senior and voted most valuable player of the girls track team, took fourth place in the discus with 40.06-meter throw.
