Nassau County establishes Child Custody Exchange Safe Zone

The Nassau County Sheriff's Office has introduced a dedicated Child Custody Exchange Safe Zone, providing a secure, neutral location for parents sharing custody to safely transfer their children.

BOCC says they will not exempt property owners eligible under Live Local Act

On Monday, county staff recommended that the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners consider electing to not exempt property under the Live Local Act Property Tax Exemption and commissioners agreed.
A temporary art installation was once on this pedestal in front of the courthouse on Centre Street. The base now homes a trash can. Nassau Council of Arts and Culture President Richard Restiano worked with the artist to bring the piece to the city. City may shift public arts program to Parks and Rec

The Fernandina Beach City Commission will consider giving control over art placed in public areas to the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, after the organization that established rules governing public art was sunsetted.
This week outgoing museum curator Jarrett Hill is orienting his replacement to the position, Isabelle Bournigault. The Amelia Island Museum of History is located at 233 S. Third St.

Return of books to school shelves sought

In a key battleground in the larger debate about removing and restricting school books, plaintiffs in a lawsuit against the Escambia County School Board asked a federal judge this week to order officials to return to the shelves seven titles that have been off-limits for over a year.

County commissioners gave a tentative approval for an addition of nearly $3.3 million more June 24 for the current draft Capital Improvement Plan. The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners held a special session Monday ahead of its regular fourth-Monday-of-the-month board meeting.
