Paddlers seas the day: Event raises awareness and funds for veterans

More than 100 paddlers hit the water over the weekend to raise awareness for veteran suicide and post traumatic stress disorder. The sixth annual Cross the Line Paddle for Veterans held Saturday was sponsored by the Cross the Line Foundation.

Pinson's going to Paris

She did it. Poe Pinson, 19, is heading to Paris next month. The Fernandina Beach skateboarder qualified for the 2024 Olympics in Budapest, Hungary, and is a member of the U.S. women’s Olympic skateboard team.

Christian Heritage Parade questioned

On June 18, Fernandina Beach Mayor Bradley Bean declared June 29 as Christian Heritage Day in the city. The proclamation was presented in conjunction with a Christian heritage parade, planned for June 29.

Locals will celebrate culture and togetherness Saturday with the observance of the fifth annual Juneteenth Jumpoff.  County and city offices are closed today in observance of Juneteenth, a federal holiday established very recently in 2021.

Pollinator Pathway is new attraction along AIA

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and butterfly release are planned Saturday, June 22, at 10 a.m. for the newly created Pollinator Pathway along the bike path on AIA near Amelia Island Plantation. The public is invited to attend with suggested parking at the Verandah restaurant.
