County considers powered paragliding dangers

Out at Main Beach on any given day, visitors might look up to see, no, not a bird or a plane, but a powered paraglider.  On Wednesday, the Board of County Commissioners heard a presentation on powered paragliders.

Another 18 miles to be resurfaced this year in county

By October, Nassau County will have resurfaced 78 miles of road under its Pavement Management Plan.  The Board of County Commissioners approved a $5,183,116.20 contract with Hubbard Construction last week for continuing work on the plan.

What is takes to protect Amelia Island’s beaches

Amelia Island’s beaches are beautiful, and wide enough for locals and visitors to share. However, the condition of those beaches is not an accident but rather a coordinated effort between the City of Fernandina Beach, the Navy and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Sea turtles, coastal animals a major part of Amelia Island culture

Mary Duffy of the Amelia Island Sea Turtle Watch said sea turtle season has started out with a bang.  Volunteers have already marked over a dozon nests and counting.

County approves $975K purchase for shave bridge viewshed

Aside from formally opposing Bill 1221 and making moves on parks and trails, the county approved an item that will protect the view for drivers traveling on or off the Shave Bridge, and another that will keep work moving efficiently on County Road 121.

County stays on track with parks and trails projects

Nassau County has said it is focusing its energy on preparing for expected growth. Leaders expect the county's population to nearly double by 2050. Aside from public safety, infrastructure and conservation, staff is particularly focused on parks and trails.

Shrimp shine at 60th Shrimp Fest

The 60th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival was a huge success according to organizers. Maria Coppola of Coppola PR told the News-Leader the festival was attended by an estimated 150,000 people.
