County approves opioid settlement disbursement recommendations

Last week, the Board of County Commissioners approved the recommendations made by the Opioid Settlement Task Force on where to place the funds Nassau County received from opioid settlements.

Nassau County: Historic 500-year storm event prompts Jax Utilities contract increase

Nassau County commissioners have increased the contract with Jax Utilities in response to last year’s historic storm event.  At Monday’s Board of County Commissioners meeting, commissioners OK’d an amendment to a contract with Jax Utilities Management, Inc.

Hospital President Anderson leads Baptist Medical Center Nassau to new heights

Last week, Baptist Medical Center Nassau earned a five-star rating in patient quality care from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid, the national hospital accreditation body.  A five-star rating is the highest level attainable.

County approves beach recreation amendments

The Commissioners Chambers were jam-packed Monday forcing Nassau County staff to open an overflow room to attendees of the Board of County Commissioners meeting on Monday night.

Phone scammers impersonate NCSO

Nassau County Sheriff’s Office sent out a scam alert Friday, August. 1, warning residents of a phone scam targeting locals. “Criminals are posing as deputies with the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO), calling individuals and falsely claiming that a loved one has been arrested.

County seeks ROA designation west of I-95

Nassau County is working with the Nassau County Economic Development Board and the North Florida Economic Development Partnership to attain a Rural Area of Opportunity designation from the Florida Department of Commerce.

County plans for receding funds

The Board of County Commissioners made its first budget action for the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 on Monday. Nassau County approved tentative millage rates and set its first budget hearing for Sept. 8. The BOCC held a workshop prior to its regularly scheduled meeting Monday.

Hilliard shooter pronounced dead

The shooter in the triple killing in Hilliard last week has officially been pronounced dead.The domestic shooting incident at a West 12th Avenue home on the evening of July 24 left three dead, the shooter “clinically dead” and one survivor – a 5-year-old girl.
