Industry jobs on the rise in Nassau 

The Nassau Prosperity Alliance reported a higher rate of targeted industry jobs in Nassau County in 2024. The group of local economic leaders released its 2024 report at the end of May.

Commissioner to state legislators: "Do better"

BOCC had a short break this month when their regularly scheduled third meeting of the month was canceled for falling on Memorial Day. That didn’t stop county leaders from moving along with business as usual. The board made several notable actions at its two meetings, May 12 and 21.

Thomas Creek Watershed residents seeing relief

Nassau County is making real progress in its plan to relieve residents dealing with flooding concerns in the Thomas Creek Watershed. The county put in an application for another grant this month, the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program for $244,729.

County considers powered paragliding dangers

Out at Main Beach on any given day, visitors might look up to see, no, not a bird or a plane, but a powered paraglider.  On Wednesday, the Board of County Commissioners heard a presentation on powered paragliders.

Another 18 miles to be resurfaced this year in county

By October, Nassau County will have resurfaced 78 miles of road under its Pavement Management Plan.  The Board of County Commissioners approved a $5,183,116.20 contract with Hubbard Construction last week for continuing work on the plan.

What is takes to protect Amelia Island’s beaches

Amelia Island’s beaches are beautiful, and wide enough for locals and visitors to share. However, the condition of those beaches is not an accident but rather a coordinated effort between the City of Fernandina Beach, the Navy and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Sea turtles, coastal animals a major part of Amelia Island culture
