Group opposing waterfront park wants to put it to the voters

Plans for a park on the Amelia River waterfront in downtown Fernandina Beach are moving forward, but some residents who use the marina for pleasure as well as business oppose the park, and are working to get the matter on the ballot to give voters an opportunity to weigh in on the matter.

Hornets eliminate Pirates

City Attorney OKs partisan commission races

During the 2022 election of Fernandina Beach City Commissioners, politics raised its head as never before, with two candidates claiming a party affiliation in what had always been a nonpartisan race. In front of the 2024 election, the matter has provoked a legal opinion.

OHPA moving forward with property sale

The Ocean Highway and Port Authority will negotiate with a real estate agency to sell a parcel of property, although it is still unclear what the Authority will do with the proceeds of that sale. OHPA planned to sell three parcels at 305 Dade, 332 N. Third and 510 N. Third Streets.

City commission moves forward with bond plans

The Fernandina Beach City Commission will ask city voters to approve a bond that would raise $25 million, most of which would go to make the Amelia River waterfront more resilient. At its annual visioning session held Jan.
