Safety in loops: County staff discusses roundabouts

Nassau County residents are getting used to driving 'round and 'round. As a part of its push to manage growth and safety, the county is working with its contracted companies to construct roundabouts at busy intersections.

County raises flood risk awareness

The Board of County Commissioners declared this week as Flood Awareness Week in Nassau County. The awareness week is meant to increase knowledge of flood risk, the availability of flood insurance, flood protection methods and how to prepare for emergencies, the county says.

End of pennies changes payments

Don’t expect exact change when you’re paying with cash if Gov. Ron DeSantis signs a bill that will allow retailers and consumers to round up or down to the nearest nickel. The House voted 111-1 Tuesday on the measure (SB 1074). Jacksonville Democratic Rep. Angie Nixon voted against it.

County Attorney weighs legislative impact

More than 1,900 bills have been introduced during the 2026 Legislative Session.  “There are some very fastmoving amendments going on in the legislature right now,” Nassau County Attorney Denise May said.

County awarded $6.25M grant to fund road to job creation hub near U.S. 301, I-10

Speaking in Yulee on Thursday morning, Gov. Ron DeSantis awarded the county $6.25 million to fund a road for a new job creation hub near U.S. 301 and I-10. The U.S. 301 and I-10 interchange runs along U.S. 90 south of Bryceville in West Nassau County.

School board mulls 1 mill continuation

With Nassau County School District’s one-mill increase set to expire, district board members reviewed the one-mill’s benefits, timeline and a possible reduction, and heard pleas from employees to keep the one-mill in place.

Locals face 'severe water shortage'

A concern of moderate water shortage has now been upgraded to a severe water shortage in Nassau and surrounding counties. A Phase Two Water Shortage has been declared indicating a “severe water shortage.
