Swimmer found on north end

The Fernandina Beach Fire Department focused its efforts into recovering the body of a swimmer who was lost in the surf on the north end of Amelia Island Wednesday.
According to Fire Chief Ty Silcox, his department was notified of three swimmers in distress Wednesday afternoon.

Proposed RV park site owners pursuing townhome development

Property owners who wanted to develop an RV park on Sadler Road are asking the city of Fernandina Beach to annex the property and provide water and sewer services in order to build townhomes at the site.

Sturges asks for changes to city’s Land Development Code

Fernandina Beach Vice Mayor David Sturges, who owns and operates a construction business in the city, wants the city’s Land Development Code amended so that if there is development on adjoining lots, that development does not automatically combine them, creating one lot of record.

Fernandina Beach approves rollback rate and budget

The Fernandina Beach City Commission approved a millage rate and budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year, but there will be another special meeting before final approval, where commissioners can make changes to either of those items.
The tentative millage rate is 4.8298 mills, lower than the rate of 5.
