NCCOA 17th annual gala salutes our greatest generation

Nassau County Council on Aging's 17th annual Salute to Seniors Gala, held at the Omni Amelia Island Resort on Jan. 21, highlighted the life-enriching programs and services the agency offers our Greatest Generation in Nassau County. More than 300 people attended the fundraiser.

Quilt show provides care and challenges

The Amelia Island Quilt Guild is proud to present its triennial quilt show, Quilts by the Sea, on Feb. 17 and 18. The show attracts visitors from the region, including First Coast counties and South Georgia. This year’s show promises to wow visitors with more than 100 quilts and fiber art pieces.

Touring Amelia Island’s history and heritage

American Beach on Amelia Island is a remarkable place with an important history. Founded in 1935 by A.L. Lewis, it was a place of respite for African Americans during the Jim Crow era, providing a space for “recreation and relaxation without fear of humiliation”.

To bring accessible fishing opportunities and environmental education to local military families, Timucuan Parks Foundation recently teamed up with the National Park Service Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve for a Junior Ranger Angler Fishing Clinic for Blue Star Families Jacksonville.

I will probably have someone call me today to ask about a palm tree or a person bring a bug sample in. Every day is different and that’s why I love it.”

Nassau County students selected to perform in district concert

On Saturday, 45 Nassau County middle and high school students performed in an All District Band Concert held at Atlantic Coast High School in Jacksonville. “There were three different bands - Middle School Honor Band, High School Nomination Band, and High School Honor Band.

FBPD arrests man for attempted murder

The Fernandina Beach Police Department arrested a man on charges of attempted murder and tampering with a witness Jan. 24. Officers took Christopher Bagley, 51, into custody after responding to a possible battery, with the victim being at Baptist Nassau Medical Center.

The Nassau County School Board ratified its contract with the Nassau Teachers’ Association on Thursday, officially sealing the deal guaranteeing teachers receive their “much needed” and “historic” raises.
