Growth continues in new community development

Wildlight is growing and growing and growing.  As new residents flow into the county, the new community continues to raise more residential areas and welcome more businesses. In mid July, Wildlight announced yet another neighborhood to go up soon.

Two of Amelia Island’s spirited nonprofit groups, Amelia Cruizers and Friends of Fernandina Aviation, will gather together a field of captivating cars and airplanes at our terminally cool airport on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

County expects to reduce millage for fourth year in a row

On Monday, the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners approved a tentative budget and millage rate that, if put in place, will establish a millage reduction for the fourth year in a row.

Pinson’s in Paris, kicking off Olympics

The opening ceremonies for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France, are today, and Poe Pinson of Fernandina Beach is there representing the U.S. women’s skateboarding team. Pinson and her teammates compete Sunday. The preliminaries are scheduled from 6-11 a.m., and the final starts at 11 a.m.

Planche à roulette for the gold

Fernandina Beach’s own Poe Pinson, who got her start at the Main Beach Skate Park, pictured, will compete Sunday in the Paris Olympic games. The skateboard event will begin at 6 a.m. local time, with the top eight skaters from the preliminaries advancing to the final round.

Judge sentences killer to death for deputy’s 2021 murder

Patrick McDowell, who fatally shot Nassau County Deputy Joshua Moyers during a traffic stop nearly three years ago, was sentenced to death by a judge on Wednesday. In April, a jury voted 11-1 to recommend the death penalty for McDowell, who had pleaded guilty to the murder.
