Publix is set to reopen on Amelia Island this summer, a company spokesperson confirmed to the News-Leader on Tuesday.No date has been set, Publix Media Relations Manager Hannah Herring said.Speculation has been swirling on social media about the store’s reopening.

Amelia Island is tree haven all year long

Amelia Island continues to lead the way in tree conservation with the addition of two more arboreta on the island. Simmons Road Park and the Bosque Bello Cemetery’s designation as Level 1 arboretums brings the total number on the island to 11.

Judge halts recall efforts

A Nassau Circuit Court judge has ruled in favor of two Fernandina Beach city commissioners seeking to halt a recall effort against them. Judge Marianne Aho on Wednesday granted a temporary injunction on behalf of commissioners Genece Minshew and Tim Poynter against the recall.

FHP: Bicyclist hospitalized after collision with SUV

A 75-year-old Fernandina Beach man suffered “incapacitating injuries” while riding a bicycle March 27 after a car swerved into the bike lane on South Fletcher Avenue knocked him off the bike and ran over him, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Audit firm reports county in ‘good, healthy financial condition’

Nassau County received an assuring report on its last Fiscal Year from an external auditor. The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners heard an update from Ron Whitesides with Purvis, Gray & Co., following the company’s audit for Fiscal Year 2024/2025, which ended on Sept. 30.

End of pennies changes payments

Don’t expect exact change when you’re paying with cash if Gov. Ron DeSantis signs a bill that will allow retailers and consumers to round up or down to the nearest nickel. The House voted 111-1 Tuesday on the measure (SB 1074). Jacksonville Democratic Rep. Angie Nixon voted against it.
