County announces more bicentennial celebrations

Nassau County announced a few more events lined up for the Bicentennial Celebration — a selfie scavenger hunt, a local author presentation and a partnership with a local Corn Maze. The scavenger hunt will feature photo challenges, quizzes and information about Nassau County’s history.

Opioid Task Force holds first-ever meeting

On Aug. 8, the fresh-faced Nassau County Opioid Task Force hammered out procedural details at its first-ever meeting. The group met in the Commissioner’s Chambers and received an introduction of what to expect as a part of the new advisory committee. The group approved two motions at the meeting.

City to manage public art with Nassau arts council

The Parks and Recreation Department of the city of Fernandina Beach will take over the management of temporary works of art placed in public spaces in the city, but Nassau Council of Arts and Culture will collaborate with the city in that effort.

Nassau County approves $41,400 grant for new public track

On Wednesday, the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners approved a $41,400 grant to the city of Fernandina Beach for the construction of a Peck Center Charles Eugene Richo multi-use track. The track will be open to the public and will be 1,100 feet long and eight feet wide.

County recognizes hard-working community members Wednesday

The majority of the Nassau County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting Wednesday was spent honoring members of the community who have put time and effort into bettering Nassau County.

Hornets host Indians Friday in playoffs

The Hornets are in the playoffs. The Yulee High School football team, now 8-2 after last week’s 18-0 shutout over the visiting Pedro Menendez Falcons, hosts the Keystone Heights Indians Friday night in the region quarterfi-nal round. Yulee is the second seed behind Bradford County.

New city manager looking at the bigger picture from a personal perspective

Fernandina Beach’s city manager is a team player who works to bring calm to a job with five bosses — the city commissioners. “This job is about people, first and foremost – people, relationships,” Ross said. “I strongly feel, and am very confident, that I can get along with anyone.
