When will Publix open? June, July, or late summer?

Island Walk Publix, 1421 Sadler Road, is expected to re-open this summer and will include a number of renovations and improvements.

Publix is set to reopen on Amelia Island this summer, a company spokesperson confirmed to the News-Leader on Tuesday.

No date has been set, Publix Media Relations Manager Hannah Herring said.

Speculation has been swirling on social media about the store’s reopening. The project architect stated in an Instagram post that the reopening was scheduled for June 2. Herring said that the information was incorrect, but the opening would happen in the summer.

Publix stated earlier this year that the reopening was slated for the third quarter, essentially a timeframe of July 10-Sept. 30. For months, passersby have seen crews working on the building’s facade and parking, as the construction site has enveloped a significant portion of the Island Walk Shopping Center.

The parking lot at the grocery store is now open.

The new, 58,834-square-foot grocery store, 1421 Sadler Road  will feature Publix’s new “Pours” concept, where customers can order smoothies, acai bowls or grab a drink while they shop. The store will feature options like burrito
bowls and it has a pizza oven in the deli.

“Our Island Walk Publix will open as our newer, larger format where customers can enjoy expanded offerings like burrito bowls and a pizza oven in the deli,” Media Relations Manager Hannah Herring told the News-Leader. “There will also be a Pours area where customers can order smoothies, acai bowls or grab a drink and sip while they shop. We look forward to reopening and welcoming back customers to try all the new offerings.”

It would mark the long-awaited return of the island’s second closed grocery store after ALDI opened in the renovated former Winn-Dixie in March.

Publix shuttered in late April last year and Winn-Dixie closed in July.

For the renovated Publix, Benning Construction Co. out of Atlanta is the contractor and Alpharetta, Georgia-based Hiscutt & Associates is the architect.
