The city of Fernandina Beach fall adult coed open softball league ended on Oct. 9 with the league tournament.

The coaches of the boys and girls Pirate cross coun-try teams insisted it was not hyperbole. Both the name of the meet and the teams’ performances last Saturday were “spectacular.”

Second-seed Fernandina Beach High School beat the Paxon Golden Eagles (No. 3 seed) 25-10, 25-8, 25-13 Tuesday in the semifinal round of the District 3-4A volleyball tournament in Yulee.

The 2023 Georgia-Florida Ocean Challenge Race from St. Simons Island to Amelia Island was held on Oct. 7.

The Coach Hope Memorial Invitational meet is alive again.

Five sailboats from the Amelia Island Sailing Club raced on Saturday in Cumberland Sound. Two other boats had to withdraw because of last-minute issues and conflicts.

The Fernandina Beach High School volleyball team pushed its record to 3-1 with a 3-0 win over visiting Hilliard Wednesday. The FBHS junior varsity won 2-0.

The Pirates are 1-1 on the season so, having some matches pushed back because of the hurricane and Labor Day.
