A new Schlierf in town for Hornets golf team 

Yulee High School’s golf team has recently started their new season along with new coach Greg Schlierf.  About his coaching philosophy, Schlierf explained his focus on “smart play.” “I want the boys to focus on making the best possible shots and not take the unnecessary risks,” he said.

Hornets sting Indians to remain perfect

YULEE — Yulee High School’s varsity football team rallied on a warm, dry Friday night to keep its spotless record intact. Coach Kyle Dougherty's Hornets, representing 3A District 3, upped their season mark to 3-0 with a 19-12 victory over Charlton County (Ga.) in a non-district contest.

The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed their 26-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers in the first game of the season. The win broke the historically even record between the two teams who had been 4-4 head to head and set the bar high for the Jaguars next game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Pirates rule the water: Local schools compete in countywide swim jamboree

Nassau County’s high school swimmers congregated at the Atlantic Recreation Center on Aug. 28 for the Nassau County Swim Jamboree. The Pirates hosted the Yulee High School Hornets, West Nassau High School Warriors and the Hilliard Middle Senior School Red Flashes on Thursday.

Terry Kelly Skate Jam rides out the rain 

Despite the rainy forecast, Fernandina Beach’s ninth annual Terry Kelly Skate Jam was able to occur on Saturday Aug. 30. Waldemar Borrero, president of Friends of Fernandina Skate Park, which is the non-profit organization behind the event, told the News-Leader about its success.

Hornets dominate at home, raise record to 2-0

YULEE – The Yulee High School varsity football team dismantled visiting Clay 43-7 on Aug. 29 The Hornets raised their season mark to 2-0, while the Blue Devils remained winless. Following their 21-6 opening win over Union County, Yulee picked up where they left off against Clay.
