Wildlight recently announced that The Fellowship Family and Ambling Property Investments will develop a senior housing community within its mixed-use master planned development in Nassau County.

Man pleads not guilty to assault charge

A Jacksonville man has pleaded not guilty to an aggravated assault charge related to a road rage incident in Nassau County. Twenty-nine-year-old Max Ryan came before Judge James Daniel to enter his plea on Dec. 1. Pre-trial proceedings are set to begin in January 2023.

NCSO arrests Callahan man for manslaughter

The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office arrested Ethan Whitty from Callahan last week on the charge of DUI manslaughter after an ATV crash in May 2021 left one person dead. According to his arrest arrest record, Whitty, 22, was arrested Nov.

State drops charges against former FBPD officer

The State Attorney’s Office has opted to drop the charges against a former Fernandina Beach Police Department officer, John Lee Finley, accused in June of this year of drugging and sexually assaulting a woman while she slept.

Lawsuit looms over proposed Okefenokee titanium mine

A federal lawsuit has been filed to challenge a proposed titanium mine near the Okefenokee Swamp. The Southern Environmental Law Center in Atlanta filed the suit Nov. 15, representing four conservation groups.

Whale ho! Volunteers train to spot right whales

Volunteers migrated to Story & Song Bookstore Bistro Tuesday and Wednesday to learn more about North Atlantic right whales and how to spot them. Julie Albert is a coordinator for the North Atlantic Right Whale Conservation Program Volunteer Sighting Network. She has been there for 23 years.

Martin, Deonas say goodbye to NCSB

The Nassau County School Board has bid farewell to board member Jamie Deonas and its chairwoman of 12 years, Donna Martin. After 14 total years on the board, Martin did not run for re-election this November. She served one two-year term and three four-year terms.
