New garbage service contract approved

Beginning next year, residents of the city of Fernandina Beach will pay more to have Waste Management pick up garbage less often after the city commission approved, on first reading, a new contract at its May 16 meeting.

Citizens sue Nassau County over south end agreement

The Citizens Against Runaway Development (CARD) filed suit against Nassau County in the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court. The suit seeks to prevent a settlement agreement between Nassau County and Riverstone Properties, LLC, from becoming effective.

After a COVID-induced hiatus, the Wild Amelia Nature Festival came back for its 14th year. This past weekend, it kicked off with a sunset river cruise and led into animal exhibits, activities for the kids, nature walks and more.

A 31-year-old Fernandina Beach man died Sunday afternoon after a Nassau County Sheriff’s Office SUV struck the car the man was driving. The accident occurred in Yulee just before 1:30 p.m.

Plan unveiled to protect South Atlantic salt marshes

A coalition of government, ecological and professional leaders has come together to form the South Atlantic Salt Marsh Initiative, a program aimed at protecting salt marshes from the effects of climate change. These salt marshes are areas of grassland flooded with seawater.

City commission approves replat; allows townhome development on Tringali property

Despite pleas from residents who filled city hall opposing the development of townhouses in downtown Fernandina Beach, the city commission voted to approve the construction on streets adjacent to the city’s Historic District.
