The Pirate mascot has been reimaged and now renamed. The Fernandina Beach High School mascot is now Skully. Nominations were taken over social media a year ago, when athletic director Mike Woodard reimaged his outfit. The week after homecoming, Woodard posted those nominated name choices on social media and at school for two rounds of voting. Skully is now participating in the FHSAA Mascot Challenge for the High School Mascot of the Year, Woodard said. On hand for the ceremony were Sheriff Bill Leeper, Judge Jenny Higginbotham, FBHS senior Olivia Rogers and members of the Fernandina Pirates Club.
