5-year-old succumbs in drowning incident

A 5-year-old died Saturday during a drowning incident near Seaside Park in Fernandina Beach. According to a Fernandina Beach Ocean Rescue news release, lifeguards at Tower 8 were flagged down by beachgoers reporting a child in distress in the ocean, just north of Seaside Park.

City manager aces six month evaluation

The Fernandina Beach City Commission had nothing but praises in its evaluation of the performance of City Manager Sarah Campbell. Campbell came on board last September, after a series of people served in the position after the city commission canceled the contract of Dale Martin.

City considers lower impact fees

The Fernandina Beach City Commission is moving forward with adjusting the rate at which builders and developers pay impact fees. Impact fees are collected by cities to pay for services that will be required as a result of new development.

Be prepared for hurricane season

Hurricane season is upon us, and preparation can reduce the time and effort needed to recover from damage from storms and flooding. In an effort to help prepare and recover from storms, Nassau County government and Florida Power and Light have advice for residents.

Publix construction underway

The Publix located at 1421 Sadler Road is closed for improvements. The grocery chain closed the location on April 26 after 36 years of continuous operation.

Congratulations Class of 2025

Local graduates traveled to Jacksonville over the weekend to celebrate the end of an era. Yulee High School held its graduation ceremony Friday and Fernandina Beach High School held its Saturday at the University of North Florida Arena in Jacksonville.
