Driven force: Paid parking opponents give commissioners earful

By WES WOLFE The spirited opposition to Fernandina Beach’s paid parking plan filled the city commission meeting room this week to make their voices heard, while public support for the proposal proved minimal at the town hall.

Report: Submarine launches missiles in operation

Boosting Bosque Bello: City seeking national register designation, grants for cemetery

The first step in getting the historic Bosque Bello Cemetery entirely placed on the National Register of Historic Places is complete. Now the Amelia Island Fernandina Restoration Foundation, the Fernandina Beach City Commission and Terracon, Inc.

Public gets its say on paid parking

Fernandina Beach residents and visitors will be able to share their two cents Tuesday on a plan to charge for parking in the city’s historic downtown. The Fernandina Beach City Commission is hosting a town hall meeting Tuesday, beginning at 5 p.m., at City Hall, 204 Ash Street.

Hundreds peacefully protest ‘No Kings’

Hundreds gathered at the Historic Downtown Nassau County Courthouse in Fernandina Beach Saturday to participate in a “No Kings” demonstration to protest the Trump administration. Fernandina Beach Police Chief Jeff Tambasco estimated 350 to 400 people were at the event.

Game changer: Phase Two Ribbon Cutting held at regional training complex

YULEE — Sheriff Bill Leeper showed off the new additions Monday to the regional law enforcement training complex the county is constructing in phases. Leeper gave tours to Congressman Aaron Bean, County Commissioners and other attendees of the Phase Two Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.

Event features Amelia Island’s music diversity

Downtown Fernandina Beach was alive with music June 21. Richard Restiano, president of Nassau Council of Arts and Culture said it was a day of feeling good and happy and connecting with music and the community.  Restiano said it’s hard to know exactly how many people attended.

Rain causes two-month hiatus for Sounds on Centre

From April to October on the first Friday of each month, locals can get out to enjoy a free concert on Centre Street in downtown Fernandina Beach.  The event is every first Friday, except in July in the middle of summer and hurricane season.

The annual Fernandina Beach Pride Parade and Pride Festival were held over the weekend. The Pride Parade followed the typical downtown parade loop Saturday, starting at Central Park and traveling down Ash Street to 2nd Street, over to Centre Street, and back up to Central Park.
