Pirate Stadium is about to have a new look.Excavators began tearing down the 40-year-old home bleachers this week, part of a $2.4 million demolition and replacement.

Sermadevi first Lady Pirate district wrestling champion

Fernandina Beach High School wrestling had a good showing at districts, most notably, the Pirates have their firstever female district champion wrestler, Anjana Sermadevi. “Anjana has done really well this season and is an extremely hard worker in the wrestling room.

Hornets shutout Pirates in flag football

In front of the half-demolished stadium bleachers beside the Pirate’s football field, the Yulee and Fernandina Beach high school’s flag football teams battled in the first match of the season. Two touchdowns, an extra point and a safety led the Hornets to a first-game shutout over the Pirates 15-0.

Pirates open baseball season with big win, extra innings RBI

Down 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th inning to the Baldwin Indians, the Fernandina Beach Pirates (2-1) tied the contest a run and followed with another in extra innings to escape with a win. Head Coach Jon Shave said any time a team wins in extra innings and has to come from behind it’s exciting.

FBHS hosts annual team tourney, Dual at the Dunes

Fernandina Beach hosted its annual team dual tournament on Jan. 10 called Dual at the Dunes. The 15-team tournament was separeted into 3 pools of five. It was a round robin format, followed by cross bracketing based off records.

Lady Pirates dominate districts

When Evie Oliver was fouled at the top of the box in the second half, Sarah Benjamin stepped up to score a penalty kick to clinch the District championship for the Fernandina Beach Lady Pirates against the Bolles School on a frigid Wednesday.

Pirate lifters spot Regionals places

Fernandina Beach High girls’ weightlifting team has a few lifters slated for Regionals following a strong performance in Districts. Coach Jonathan Alexander said five lifters made the winners’ podium at West Nassau High during Districts.
