Jeanne Helen McLaughlin, 85, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2022, at the Warner Center for Caring, surrounded by her family.

Born in Detroit, Mich,. she was the daughter of the late George R. and Mae Jansen Bristol.

Jeanne moved to Fernandina Beach in 1969 to raise her family. After having a 30-year career for the State Health and Human Services Department and the Nassau County Health Department, she enjoyed retirement and spending time with friends and family.

Jeanne enjoyed spending time with family in Florida and the summers at the family cabin in Michigan as her children grew up. She also loved her countless trips to Disney World with her children and grandchildren over the years. Some of her favorite enjoyments in life were visiting and going out to eat at her favorite local spots with family, friends and co-workers. She was an avid animal lover and loved her two dogs, Mack and Jorge.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her stepfather, Leland Hughes; her sister, Patricia Deitz; her son-in-law, Russel Shank; great-grandson, Davis Guy; and her former husband and father of her children, Neil McLaughlin.

She leaves behind her four children, Bob (Vicky) McLaughlin of Stuart Fla., Linda Shank of Savannah, Ga., Karen (Tim) Lee of Fernandina Beach and Laura (T-Ray) Mullis of Fernandina Beach; her sister, Kathryn Hughes of Golden, Colo.; nine grandchildren, Clint (Christina) McLaughlin, Morgan McLaughlin, Jacky (David) Guy, Larry (Beth) Nettles, Jennifer (Ryan) Donegan, Timothy Lee, Andrew (Megan) Lee, Ashleigh Mullis and Trey Mullis; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Jeanne will be laid to rest as part of a family service at Hughes Cemetery in Yulee, Fla., at a later date.

The family asks those desiring to remember Jeanne to do so with donations to both The Nassau Humane Society and Nassau County Animal Services or K-9 For Warriors Program, 114 Camp K9 Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32081.
