9-13-24: Following prolonged and intense rainfall, the city of Fernandina Beach declared a Local State of Emergency at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12.

Nassau County receives highest Fitch Credit Rating

Nassau County announced it has received the highest credit rating possible from Fitch Ratings, Inc. The county’s media release said it had recently received a notification that its rating has been increased to “AAA” up from its previous rating of “AA.

USCSF announces beginning of University of US classes for 2024-25

U.S. Constitution Scholarship Foundation announced that on Monday, Sept. 23 at 4:45 p.m., the University of US will welcome 93 students from Nassau County to begin the semester.

BOCC adjusts budget, adopts millage rates

The Board of County Commissioners held its first Legislative Public Hearing regarding the Millage Rates and Fiscal Year 2024-25 Budget on Monday.  Assistant County Manager Marshall Eyerman made the presentation on the millage rate and budget.

Art for the community

The oldest art gallery in Fernandina Beach has a full slate of community events coming up, including workshops such as landscape painting and, on Oct. 19, the annual Plein Air Paint Out that will make the streets of Fernandina Beach seem like Paris.

Matz collects silver in Italy

Jeays Matz is a silver medalist. The 17-year-old roller hockey player from Fernandina Beach competed with Team USA in the junior women’s Inline Hockey World Championship. The event was held Aug. 29 through Sept. 2 in Roccaras, Italy. It was Matz’s first trip out of the country.

City commission selects Sarah Campbell as new city manager

The City of Fernandina Beach will be managed by Sarah Campbell, if employment negotiations with the candidate are successful. The city has been administered by Operations Director Jeremiah Glisson since Charles George took a medical leave.

Sarah Campbell selected as Fernandina Beach City Manager

At a special meeting on Sept. 5, the Fernandina Beach City Commission endorsed Sarah Campbell as the next city manager. According to a recent release, the commission directed staff to begin negotiating an employment agreement, which will be brought for approval at a later date.

County announces more bicentennial celebrations

Nassau County announced a few more events lined up for the Bicentennial Celebration — a selfie scavenger hunt, a local author presentation and a partnership with a local Corn Maze. The scavenger hunt will feature photo challenges, quizzes and information about Nassau County’s history.
