Fred Hoyt worked his way up in the local newspaper industry to eventually become vice president of the Times Union Printing and Publishing Company in Jacksonville. He was better known locally as the proprietor of Hoyt Grocery and Chandlery in downtown Fernandina and as founder of The First National Bank of Fernandina.
