In May 1979 the Navy selected the King’s Bay site to become home to a fleet of submarines capable of being armed with Trident missile nuclear weapons. The project, the largest peacetime construction ever undertaken by the Navy, would take nine years to complete at a cost of $1.3 billion. It would be a major boon to the area economy. Submitted

When the county outgrew the old courthouse in downtown Fernandina Beach, a two-courthouse decision was adopted in 1998 in which the old courthouse would remain in operation with renovations, while a new courthouse annex would be built in Yulee. Submitted
