A unique local tradition, locals and visitors alike gather along the riverfront in downtown Fernandina Beach (North Front Street) to watch a giant shrimp covered in lights fall from the sky as part of an annual tradition to welcome a new year. It happens at a family-friendly 7 p.m. Festivities occur from 5-8 p.m.
This crustacean sensation features live music, food vendors, family-friendly festivities, fireworks and more, as crowds gather to enjoy Amelia Island’s own unique “shrimp-sized” take on the Times Square Ball Drop.
As the birthplace of the modern shrimping industry, Amelia Island takes pride in the local shrimping scene. The island hosts an annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival and is known for its fresh-caught local shrimp. With such adoration and history, it’s no wonder Amelia Island has a New Year’s Eve Shrimp Drop.
