A man who has spent his career bringing local news to communities, Foy Maloy, has announced he is retiring.
Maloy, publisher of the Fernandina Beach News-Leader and regional publisher for Community Newspapers, Inc. Coastal Region, is stepping down after half a century in the business of journalism.
In addition to his role as publisher of the News-Leader, Maloy oversees the operations and content of two other CNI owned newspapers: the Nassau County Record in Callahan and the Tribune & Georgian in St. Marys, Ga.
Maloy is a Florida native, born in Orlando and raised in Winter Garden. He attended Valencia Community College in Orlando and Florida State University in Tallahassee. He has been in newspaper publishing and the local information business for 49 years and has held a variety of positions with Knight-Ridder Newspapers at the Tallahassee Democrat and with the New York Times Regional Newspaper Group at the Ocala Star-Banner before becoming publisher of the News-Leader in 1995. He has been publisher of the News-Leader for 30 years.
Maloy is very active in the community and has served on the boards of Micah’s Place, Boy Scouts of America Nassau County Eagle Scout Review Board, Communities In Schools, Fernandina Beach High School Business Partners and the Nassau County Volunteer Center. He served as chairman of the Nassau County Chamber of Commerce and as chairman of the Florida Press Association. He is also an active member of Florida’s First Amendment Foundation.
Maloy is married, owns three dogs and for relaxation he enjoys fishing, hunting, gardening and anything outdoors.
Community Newspapers, Inc. Chairman Alan NeSmith said Maloy has been an integral part of CNI.
“Foy is a newspaperman to his core with a stories career in the industry,” NeSmith said. “For the last 25 years, Foy’s leadership has helped us fulfill our mission statement at the News-Leader and within the CNI Coastal Region. He has been a key senior leader within our company, and we wish him all the best during his well-earned retirement.”
