Below is an update on the Bryceville Fire from the 4:00 pm briefing from Nassau County Sheriffs Office, Nassau EM and Nassau County Fire-Rescue 3102:

  • Fortunately, fire activity was minimal today and great progress was made
  • It will probably be another day or two before we have the final count on acres burned but it is still believed to be around 1600acres.
  • The Division of Forestry will be deploying strike teams tomorrow and through the weekend to address hot spots.
  • NCFR will provide supplemental tanker trucks to support operations through the remainder of the incident.
  • Roads have been reopened. However, NCSO will be patrolling through the evening. If the smoke settles back in and visibility is compromised then road closures will be reinstated as needed.

According to a recent release, Nassau County fire crews and law enforcement are working to put out a brush fire in a rural area west of Bryceville that has quickly grown to about 650 acres.

In a tweet Thursday, Nassau County Emergency Management said the fire, which is in a rural area near St. Marys River, started north of 119 and is moving west toward CR-121.

The fire extends about 650 acres and is only 20% contained, according to the Florida Forest Service active fire map.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department is also responding to the fire, said the release..

Tractor-plow units are working to protect homes, and four engines are working to contain the fire, continued the release. FFS has a helicopter dropping water as well.

Officials also suggested the residents prepare to evacuate in case an evacuation is called. No evacuations have been ordered.

County Road 121 was closed to non-resident traffic from Stokes Road to Kinard Road. County Road 119 was closed to traffic at the intersection of CR-121, according to the emergency management release.

Roadways have reopened, but officials are advising drivers to use precautions as smoke is expected to settle back down and cause driving conditions to become dangerous.
