A Hilliard man has pleaded not guilty to charges of the manufacture of a controlled substance and first-degree arson.

According to court records, Nassau County Sheriff’s Office officers arrested Johnny Dixon on Oct. 14. Officers said they were dispatched to a residence in Hilliard in reference to a fire. When they arrived to Mulberry Landing Annex, they said, they noted the flames of the fire were green and blue and the smell of ammonia in the air.

Dixon was also on the scene and was allegedly “very vague and slow to answer questions, almost (as) if he was choosing his words carefully.”

Officers said Dixon did not answer any questions on scene, but did allegedly spontaneously admit to the sergeant that he was cooking methamphetamine in a Gatorade bottle inside the house before the fire burned the house down.

“It should be noted the residence was completely destroyed and unlivable,” the arrest sheet reads.

Based on what officers observed on scene, they arrested Dixon for the manufacture, delivery or sale of a controlled substance and first-degree arson.

On Nov. 22, Dixon entered a plea of not guilty before the court. A trial date has yet to be set.
