Nassau County Council on Aging’s 17th annual Gala, Salute to Seniors, is now history. However, the unsurpassed generosity throughout Nassau County is alive and well today.

Our largest annual fundraising event and first in-person since the pandemic goes down in the record books as the most successful to date. That’s a very good thing since our county’s senior population continues to increase dramatically each year. Today, seniors comprise approximately 30% of Nassau County — that's more than 27,000 seniors. While some of our seniors have what they need, a substantial percentage (estimated at 8-11%) live at or below the poverty level in both east and west areas of the county.

NCCOA’s role of helping our seniors live happy, healthy lives is one we take very seriously. It’s about making sure seniors have the resources and tools to age in place, with assistance to navigate through the challenges related to aging.

We offer Senior Life Centers in Fernandina Beach and Hilliard, with a full calendar of programs and services for seniors, including lifelong learning classes and presentations, congregate meals, activities, entertainment, health and wellness education and socialization.

We offer a state licensed day program, The Club, for adults needing assistance due

to physical or cognitive limitations. Therapeutic activities, planned outings and socialization in a safe setting are offered and supervised by licensed and trained healthcare professionals.

We offer in-home services through Advocate Home Healthcare, including personal care, respite, homemaking, companion services, medication reminders and transportation provided by Certified Nursing Assistants and Home Health Aides screened with Level 2 background checks.

We offer nutritious congregate meals served in a group setting to promote socialization, and Meals on Wheels delivered to isolated, homebound seniors (Meals on Wheels for Pets, too!).

We offer FTA- and FDOT-certified public transportation through NassauTRANSIT, with all wheelchair-accessible vehicles, providing registered paratransit service and on-demand service on Saturdays.

We offer volunteer opportunities for individuals to “give back” to the community. Volunteer roles — for adults of all ages — are available across our programs and services and are meant to involve and help our seniors.

We offer this comprehensive program of services with our seniors — our Greatest Generation — in mind. Aging is a process that can be challenging. At NCCOA, we feel that doing it together can make a huge difference.

You don’t have to do it alone. We are here for you. And, our generous community makes it all possible.

Join us for NCCOA’s annual meeting Jan. 31 from 11-11:45 a.m. at the Fernandina Beach Senior Life Center, 1901 Island Walk Way. For more information, contact NCCOA at 904-261-0701.
