Sady Campbell put an exclamation point on her final season as a Lady Pirate. The Fernandina Beach High School senior is the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2A state golf champion.
Campbell shot a two-day total of 145, a 74 on the first day and a 71 on day two at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howie-in-the-Hills.
“Sady finished up her high school career with a bang,” said Christina Steffen, head girls and boys golf coach at FBHS.
Campbell was tied at 145 with Dariana Breto of SLAM Academy in Miami, which resulted in a playoff for individual medalist.
“Sady won the first play-off hole, scoring a par to Breto’s bogey to make Sady the first individual state champion from FBHS and Nassau County for girls golf,” Steffen said.
FBHS sophomore Elle Reisner tied for third place with Georgia Grace Spence of McKeel Academy, shooting a two-day total of 148, 74-74. After the first day, Campbell and Reisner were tied for first place with Spence and Jaime Baker of Dr. Joaquin Garcia High School.
“What a great accomplishment for both girls,” Steffen said. “They are both hard workers and dedicated to their games.” Colson Hale, who qualified indi-vidually for the Pirate boys team, shot 82-82 for a two-day total of 162.
“He tied for 48th, right in the mid-dle of the pack,” Steffen said. “What a great experience for him as a sopho-more and first time playing Mission Inn.”
The FBHS girls team finished 15th.
“They struggled day one, shoot-ing a 382, but then improved by over 20 shots and to shoot a 360 for round two,” Steffen said.
Zoey Gamba, Emma Genovese and Raleigh Simmons also competed.
