A man who targeted victims with online scams in at least four states was arrested this month, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office said.
David Gene Ford, 59, was charged with grand theft, organized fraud, and writing false checks following an investigation into an alleged scheme involving fraudulent checks and the purchase of high-value items.
The investigation began in December 2025 after a Nassau County victim reported selling personal belongings to Ford through Facebook Marketplace, including four high-end RC cars for $2,500, NCSO said.
According to the victim, the check Ford provided was declined. When the victim attempted to contact Ford, the phone number he provided was disconnected, according to investigators. They used information from the fraudulent check to identify a separate case in Knoxville, Tennessee, involving a similar scheme. In that case, the suspect reportedly used the alias “Thor Chevy Haraldsson.”
As the investigation continued, detectives discovered Ford was wanted in multiple jurisdictions across the country, including Tennessee, Colorado, and Washington.
“Investigators determined Ford used a similar method in each case, using fraudulent checks to obtain goods while operating under false names or aliases,” the sheriff’s office said on social media. “Additional investigative work uncovered multiple Facebook posts on various community pages warning the public about Ford and his alleged fraudulent activities.”
Ford was booked into the Nassau County Jail & Detention Center on Aug. 14. He’s being held on a bond of more than $90,000.
